OUR STORY
This is our story
The 3 villas have different sizes, and shapes. They all stand out for the use of craft and local materials, with the intention to create a homogeneous concept with the environment and interiors which are bathed with sun light and surrounding vegetation. The atmosphere created is unique because it intends to make the chukum walls reveal nuances of other colors of its historical contexts.
Doors, furniture, carpentry, lighting, harmonic spaces, double height ceilings and even the finishes for the bathrooms and kitchens, were carefully chosen in accordance with the Mayan magic and essence that hides within them. The main goal consisted only of rediscovering the traditional concept of the beautiful Barrio Santa Ana, Mérida.
For the architect and creator of this concept, these villas are an expression to a humble simplicity, where deterioration and damage are part of the natural beauty. Mérida has not only become the best place to live, but it is also the gateway to the Mayan world.
DANIEL MACIAS
Villas 72 was designed by Mexican architect Daniel Macias – one of Mexico ‘s most talented and respected architects in the industry. Daniel took a visionary and long-term approach to use local construction techniques and working with the local community while creating highly desirable vacation homes in Merida.

The projects we have designed range within a very broad area of architecture, from industrial and interior design to urban projects. Although we have had the opportunity to address them from a general platform, we have developed a powerful specialization in response to the specific needs of each of the projects.

ARCHITECTURAL INSPIRATION
Mérida was built on top of the ruins and rubbles of an ancient Mayan city called T’Ho. Its architecture is heavily inspired by a combination of deeply rooted cultural and historical events. The contemporary architecture of this region is made up of traditional elements such as vaults, and lattices both traditional and sustainable finishes that are reinterpreted to create a new language that speaks to the moment in which they were built.
MAYAN CULTURE
The Mayan culture is one of the most emblematic and rich in the country of Mexico and Mesoamerica. This civilization was known for its writing, art, architecture, gastronomy, mythology and for the mathematical systems they developed, as well as the use of astronomy for their calendar.
Mérida is known as being the jewel of southeastern Mexico, over the past few years it has managed to be in first place regarding accommodation, mainly due for what it has to offer to tourist in a landscape and cultural level. Today, the architectural design of the area has reached a potential and a unique seal in each of the houses that preserves the colonial and traditional style. Villas 72, consisting of 3 colonial houses in the Historic Downtown of Mérida, offer avant-garde design and a unique architectural concept inspired in the region and local culture. The project designed by Daniel Macias, creator of DMTaller, invites you to appreciate the Mayan environment and sense the nature surrounding you during your stay here.
DANIELA GAMBA
What started as an idea of Merida, became my home.
I am very lucky to be part of a special project that has allowed me to learn from artisans in the area, learn about the stories behind each piece and, above all, put love into each space of Villas 72.
Thanks to everyone who has believed in Villas 72, to all the staff and to you, for taking an interest in this project full of passion and dedication.
Interior design is the art of creating spaces through textures, colors, materials and stories, but above all, bringing an idea to life, taking advantage of each place to make it a home.
